I am running into this problem with my 2511. It will begin to boot but stop at the point referenced below. Does anyone have an IOS that can fit with these specs? 11.2(20) will be fine...

Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) 2500 Software (C2500-I-L), Version 11.2(20), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

cisco 2511 (68030) processor (revision M) with 6144K/2048K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID 19605024, with hardware revision 00000000
Bridging software.
X.25 software, Version 2.0, NET2, BFE and GOSIP compliant.
1 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
2 Serial network interface(s)
16 terminal line(s)
32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read ONLY)

-----------------------------------------------------
I do not see how this could cause this problem but I was trying to configure like this...

!--- Set the default route for the external network.

no ip http server
!
line con 0
transport input all
line 1 16
session-timeout 20

BUT I TYPED LINE 0 16...

Had this problem the next morning.... Will just wipe it clean and start anew... Can anyone help with the IOS???

Also when I try to access ROMMON by sending a break sequence this is what I get...

I am not getting ROMMON... Anything I try.. confreg ETC. just restarts the boot process... Is this some of that old school 11.2 stuff? LoL

Once she reaches this point during the boot sequence I can not break or anything.. Just locks up...

Thought that I would show you what I get when I run a confreg from in here.. config-register does not work either...

It's o/r 0x2142 in the 2500's. I will look at work Monday to see what IOS I have in my 2503...actually, lemme look here at home---I usually back all the IOS's up...

Burt

I have c2500-is-l.113-11a.bin
I will put it on ftp...
ftp://2621xm.gotdns.com

Burt

If that doesn't work, then I know my other one does...it's there as well...

ftp://smsstlftp.gotdns.com

Now watch all the kids from China try and hack into it...ha ha. My atomic signatures for FTP in my 2620 usually stop them---they actually see them as UDP bombs...lol

maczen,

The ">" is rommon for the 2500 series. The confreg utility doesn't exit in the older routers. What you have to do for the password recovery process is:

>o/r 0x2142
>reset

o/r is "overwrite register" which sets bit 6 in the configuration register so IOS won't load the config file.

You can boot up from there.

What you did with line 1 16 is make more vty lines which require memory resources. You probably ran yourself out of memory. You can play with setting memory resources manually with IOMEM, but I suggest you clear your config and start over.

Thanks Burt, Clue,
I have the backup Burt.. You can seal your FTP from those pesky script kiddies.. LoL...

So how do I delete the config in a 2500? Can not seem to find any good documentation....

Same as any other router:

Router#erase startup-config

OR

Router#write erase

Hey Burt,
Just want to give you a heads up.. You may want to scan that FTP server.. You have this (HKTL_WFPDISABLB).. It comes in the form of actualspy.exe and here is a link for more info..

One of my many malware protection tools found it.. LoL.. There was also a plethora of active x scripts ran as soon as I connected but that was probably all of the angry Chinese that you ticked of.. LoL

Thanks for the file!!!

For the 11.2 code, write erase. I'd suggest you upgrade the Flash and RAM for that box and max it out. Should be able to find something on ebay. It's been awhile but I think the max for those boxes is 8 Flash, 16 RAM.

Does anyone have a link that describes how to upload a new IOS as well as wipe the config on the 2500.. the o/r 0x2142 will only tell it to avoid the config but I want to clear it..

Thanks for the heads up...where did you find it? Do you ue IE or Firefox? I use Firefox so Active X isn't needed...

Burt

Billy,

I agree with Cluebird - upgrade the DRAM to 16 and the FLASH to 16, the DRAM will run about $8 the FLASH will be a bit more!

It will run faster and I would say be a bit easier to config with a 12.1 or 12.2 IOS - terms will be same as you are used to!

Just some thoughts!

Thanks everyone.. I will max out the box.. and put 12.2 on it..

Burt, I use several browsers but usually Opera.. No need for Active X controls there either.. All of those were blocked by my security appliance.. was about ten I think but I believe that someone was piggy backing the FTP.. That was my fault for not checking first thing in the morning like I said I would.. No harm done.. The malware came through 80 but it may not have come from your server.. Truth be told you are paranoid enough about security that it probably didn't... I would scan just in case though..

I must admit that I REALLY like that Juniper box.. I am looking at Pix 506E or 515 now... Maybe even drop to a 501 just for something to play with then an ASA in the future... Looking for a server now also.. (rackmount..cheap!) so I can run IPCop and play with Radius/Tacacs+...

QUESTION: I have been meaning to ask this but is the syntax for the Pix and ASA the same??? Wondering if I should spend the extra money on the ASA or wait until the actual ASA cert...

Costed $34.60 US to max that puppy out... ($40.99AU) but that includes air mail from Australia.. Thanks again guys!!!
