I have a number of 2500 series routers with a mixture of flash memory ammounts. Some have 1x 8Mb flash and some have 2 x 8Mb flash.

Is it possible to get the router to see the 2 x 8mb as 1 x 16Mb?

If not, do I have to buy a 1 x 16Mb in order to load the larger IOS. Do these routers support 1 x 16Mb flash or does it depend on the ROM version?

Any help with this will be gratefully received.

I personally have not had much luck mismatch mixing flash for these routers, they do however support 16 mb flash modules, I have recently had to upgrade 5 of mine (mostly 2507's and 2514's) if that helps.

Thanks, that does help. I was not sure if they supported a single 16Mb module as all mine are 8Mb

Cheers, now I know what I'm looking for. Where did you get the upgrades?

You can combine 2x8 mb to create a single logical 1x16 mb flash.

When you insert both of them and power up this router, it will likely create 2 partitions (which you will see in the running config). Simply ensure that the 2nd partition is empty of all files and delete the partition statement in running config.

This should give you a single 16 mb flash partition to play with.

Thanks for that tip. It worked a treat and saved me some cash

Thanks again
