Hello All!

I have couple of 2420 phones and can't figure out where the menu button is. Also, the buttons show short codes on the screen instead of "descriptions". Please help.

Thanks, George

I believe you're looking for the options button - it's got a picture of a check mark on it.

As for the shortcodes instead of descriptions, afraid you're out of luck for now. Rumour has it this might become something we can change in R3 due out sometime between November and next June.

I can't see that button. I believe it should say Menu as the 4412D+. On 4412 i can press Menu and look for names in directory, look at the history and other goodies. how to do the same thing on this one?

Regards, George

Here is a trick that we use for 2420's, create a short code for whatever you want, and just name the short code the decription instead of *81 or *90 ect. Works like a charm. We have a site with 300 2420's that "encouraged" us to burn the midnight oil to fix that issue. Here is an example:

We needed to make a Short Code for an Out Of Office Absent text

Short Code - Out Of Office
Tel Number - "1,1,Out Of Office"
Feature - Set Absent Text

Now the 2420 displays Out Of Office on its display.
You can do this for anything, but keep in mind that it will turn the speaker on, but not off. We are still working on that one.

how about MENU button?

thanks for the help so far?

Brilliant!! I'm lovin it!!!

Don't you love it when customers "encourage" you to find innovative solutions?! You get a pink star from me for this one!

BTW I played around with this a bit. You can even use this for the variable N type shortcodes, as long as you avoid the letter 'n' (upper OR lowercase) in the shortcode (feature description). For example, instead of having *07* appear beside my "Set Forward #" button I am now going to use:

SC: SetFWD#N#
TN: N
F: ForwardNumber

I tested this and it works great! Oh what a happy day :)

Peter

PS You also have to watch the length of shortcode you use, don't get too flowery with the text for your new shortcodes.

PS to the above post:

The phone label on the 2420 or 4620 for my example above will read "SetFWD#" and when programming the button, set it to Dial and the number to SetFWD#

I was pleased to discover I can use the # in my descriptions (unlike the letter n), in spite of it being commonly used to denote the end of a dialing sequence # appears to not have any inherent special meaning (which the N does).

Peter

Thanks Morrack, that fixed saved us around 80K in 2420 buy backs after the customer looked at the phone and said that it looked like an eye chart.

As for 4650 - the menu key isn't there on 2420s
