I currently have a 2400ICS, and about 30 DRU-s in use. These are all the E1 version DRU-s, not T1.

I'm on the verge of upgrading to IPX. It seems like there will be a bunch of new chips that will be installed in the existing DRU-s and their respective controller cards in the switch, as part of upgrading to IPX.

The question is this:
If I buy some USED/REFURBISHED DRU today (before the system-upgrade), will they work with the IPX by upgrading their firmware chip?
And also, if after the system-upgrade I buy some USED/REFURBISHED, can I make them work with the chip upgrade?

Or should I just forget about used market and have to buy everything brand new?

Chip/firmware upgrades should be all you need provided the DRUs are the same type (E1 or T1) and will need to be replaced on both the PBX card and DRU

The referb market will be the only place to get DRU in the near future as NEC are discontinuing the product due to hazardous materials in manufacturing.

OK. Thanks for the answer.

Are there still new DRU-s available? I'll need some 15-20 by the end of this year.

And also, is is hazardous to use them? What is the hazardous material in the manufacturing? Is that in the toold and machines of manufacturing, or is it in the DRU itself?
