Nortel only ever supported the M2250 console when wired on a dedicated 25pr cable. Now as to whether nortel still even support the M2250 console is another question, one some people in Nortel cant agree on either.
I answer to your question, when i'm fitting on a customers site I always request a 25pr dedicated cable. Although I have come across so maintenance sites (not installed by us) that have M2250's running on 4pr CWT (some with and some without power TN's). I have even seen a couple wired through CAT5e using cut patch leads and Connector 78A's. Most work although they look very shabby.
On one occassion I did have a fault on a M2250 that had worked for years on CWT using 2pr and no pwr TN's, and the only way i could resolve it was to use a dedicated 25pr and 2 pwr TN's. Dont ask my why it workwed years and I had to change all that but it worked. (possibly extra M2616's added to the system pulling power off the same card as the console)
matters not, primary and secondary tn and depending on distance from the switch a third tn built as pwr,, if the lamps or dim then you need power,,
even back before end of life on the 2250 i never ran a 25 pair for a console.. nortel never could tell how many spare pair i had term from their ivory tower.. they have told me that they did not support consoles without a 25 pair cable, so i told them it was a 25, i just cut off the 23 pair i didn;t use.. hard to tell from there dialup
JOHN IS CORRECT, I'VE EVEN POWERED THE CONSOLES WITH A 48 VOLT POWER SUPPLY LOCATED AT THE CONSOLE WHICH WAS PLUGGED INTO A UPS, SO YOU REALLY NEEDED WAS 2 PAIR
I use a 3904 with main DID on
