Hello all! I know that the 2250 Attendant Console is ancient hardware, but I was wondering if ANYONE out there still has the specifications for attaching a PC to the RS-232 port. I'm looking for the com port configuration, as well as all of the commands and I/O that I can expect from the port. I tried contacting Avaya DevConnect for this information, but so far, they don't have the old Nortel developer specifications for this device that they can find. Does ANYONE out there have the specifications for the RS-232 port on this old console?

I have worked on the M1 since 1991 and have never seen or heard of connecting a PC to the 2250 Console in any way

KCFLHRC, that's funny as I also searched through my old notes which also go back a very long time but guite as long as your history. I couldn't find anything either. All I keep now are electronic copies as all the old folders and course notes were filling up the room and took up too much space.

I'm guessing that you have been on Mike's Cook Books?

There is a section on the M2250 console.

Also try
This was Genes old site that still contains loads of useful information.

Some information is attached here in a zip file.

I was just thinking about this and maybe, just maybe, the DSS 9000 connected to that port on the 2250. But once again, never seen a PC connected to one. And I can't find any documentation on the DSS 9000. It was a proprietary beast not made by Nortel or supported by them.

I have connected 2250 to a PC running the Attendant PC software. So it works the same as the PCCIU but with a bigger footprint.
But I never looked at the details of the serial communication. Guessing it has some proprietary Nortel twist to complicate it but maybe not.

After 30 years of working on the M1 I still learn new things.

Yeah, I started with Mike's Cookbook and ghtrout, but other than the 2250 manuals and a few posts, no detailed information has been forthcoming on the serial interface. I can't even find the specs for the PCCIU interface (which is similar), even though I can get all of the manuals. At some point, Nortel had a developer's kit for the 2250 that documented the I/O of the serial port on the 2250, but I can't find anyone that still has it. Obviously, I can use a null modem and connect to it to see what I get, but that's gonna take forever to reverse engineer.

Essentially, what I'm trying to do is fake out the M1/CS 1000 so that it thinks it's taking commands from a Console. Specifically, I want to use it to issue AWU and other hospitality features that are NOT available from the PMSI or BGD interfaces. Also, I don't want to take away the consoles that they are using, as the staff are familiar with them and anything new will require union approval.

I also have a 2250 connected to a PC running the Attendant PC software. I believe it's a standard 9 pin serial connection.

Yeah, km9v, I was looking for the actual ASCII command set that the Attendant PC software is sending and receiving from the console. Still haven't found it yet.

A console or PCCIU serial port communicates with a computer running the PC attendant software. I've never looked at the commands (or seen them documented), but the console/PCCIU is interpreting them, not the M1.
