I was told that a 22-button add-on mod will only work if the handset port and line cord port under the phone are facing the same direction (as opposed to one pointing up and one pointing down). Is this true? if so, why? and how come the line cord port sometimes points down and sometimes points up?

The 22 button add on will work with either phone. When they talk about the phone with the jacks facing the same way they are talking about the newer phones. With them normaly you don't need a power supply, these phones have what they call in-line power. The other phones that faceing different directions need a power supply and a 6 conductor line cord for the add on to work. Some of the older ones even needed a power board inside the phone. I'm sure someone out there has the part numbers for all these different sets to make it easier. Hope this helped some.

Hawks is exactly right. We have included in our maintence contract with our vendor something called DEPOT REPAIR in which we call in to get refurbished phone replacements for our broken or defective phones. What I did was called in for refurbs on my sets that were an older vintage and needed external power to run the AOM and they sent back the newer vintage ones that have in-line power with no need for the external power pack.If you have a service like this with your vendor take advantage of it.--i hope this helps.

so from now on I should just make sure to order the higher vintage telephones, correct? are those the NT2K or the NTZK?

I don't think you can order a specific vintage but in my experience they have always shipped the newer vintage.

if the receiver cord and the handset cords are facing opposite of each other, that is an aries 1 phone, if the are facing the same way, that is an aries 2 phone. on the bottom of the phone, you should have AI or AII. AI you need power to work the AOM.
