I have a 2050 user that is experiencing a strangle one way audio issue. Just wanted to know whether anyone out there has seen something similar. We are running version 2.01.0255 of the 2050. Our CS 1k is on release 4.5.

This user has a regular USB Plantronics A/D converter which he plugs his stereo headset into. He uses this A/D converter to separate the PC sounds from the softphone audio sound.

If he presses the headset button to get dial tone and makes a call the far end will hear him, but he can not hear the far end. If he presses the speaker button and then presses the headset button he can then hear the far end.

His headset audio settings are set to use the usb device and the speaker phone is set to use the default PC audio drivers. Not sure why toggling between the two fixes the issue!

Anyone seen something similar?

Thank you for your post. I am not sure I completely understand your message. Are you recommending I make sure UDP/TCP port 4100 is open?

Thank you.

I think we can rule NAT out. The issue occurs while on the local LAN. This 2050 TN is in the same zone (codec) as other 2050 clients that work (without the A/D albiet).

Any other suggestions?

OK, looks like I as well as others never read your entire first post! Doh!

Clearly a USB Driver issue in my eye.If they use a regulr setup they have no issues? If so then the issue is with the Plantronics device. Not sure that is "supported".

I have had this issue before, it was the firewall blocking the return traffic. As CSKabul said check what tcp ports are enabled on your firewall.

There is no firewall in the data path in this particular scenario. The issue occurs on our internal LAN.

Thought I would follow up on my initial post. I downloaded the 2050 softphone user guide to see if Nortel explicitly states what headset types are supported. As it turns out, Nortel specifies that 2050 users must use a Nortel USB headset. Reading between the lines, this means no other headset is 'offically' supported.

I'm not 100% sure the Plantronics USB A/D adapter headset is the cause of this issue, maybe more like 99.9% sure. If this particular user swaps the headset, everything works properly. Given this issue is occuring on the local LAN, I tend to think it's a headset compatibility issue.
