Please don't take this as an insult, but did you download the express edition? If so, it doesn't have developer or admin tools (yet).

Taken as an insult - but I guess some people deserve insulting - taken on the chin - I did download the Express version !!

I did this because I only have a copy of the Standard and Personal Editions of SQL Server on a CD from work. I have been trying to set up SQL Servetr on my PC at home so that I can work from there more frequently - however - These editions wont instal - they say there is a previous version already installed ?

All I want is to have QA and EM on my home PC so I can get on with dev work from home - (I dont have a dev edition to instal).

My home PC runs Windows XP Pro.

Do you have any advice Krickles ?

Cheers and thanks for your advice on 2005.

To install JUST EM and QA, you don't need to install SQL Server itself. You do need the install disk.

Load the SQL Server install disk. You should get an option to install the Server or CLIENT TOOLS. Choose Client Tools. That's where EM, QA, and the BOL are.
