I want to be able to change my network ID name but it is grayed out.
Im trying to connect to a domain. I dont want to be on the domain but Im trying to connect to a domain by a username and password but it isnt detecting anything under My Network Places.
Can anyone help?

When I try to connect to a domain through My Network Places or internet explorer it gives me an error message "cannot find the server name.

I go to My Network Places... View Entire Network... Microsoft WIndows Network... I just see the Workgroup, I dont see my domain name there... I should be able to see it though!

My username has full rights to the computer but it seems like it doesnt...

Any suggestions?

can you ping the domain server?

I brougt a Macintosh computer in yesterday and I was able to connect to my domain by using a username/password combination and I wasnt on the domain, I was still in a workgroup. Im trying to do the samething with this laptop that is running XP Media Center but it doesnt recognize it.

It is receiving an IP address so I can ping it and I can connect to the internet but if I go into My Network Places I dont get anything...

I tried to MAP THE DRIVE and nothing...

MCE 2005 is basically XP home and as such doesn't allow joining a domain. I think you are limited to 1 network share as well but I'm not 100% on that fact.

When I was born I was so suprised I didn't talk for 18 months

I know MCE 2005 can connect to a domain because I have done it before I just cant get this computer to do it. I want to basically map a drive to the computer for a day and that is it. I just want to connect to the domain by inputing in a username/password for an existing user on the domain.

The domain name should still show up in the Microsoft WIndows Network area...

Why cant I change the Network ID on the computer running MCE 2005? It is greyed out.

Thanks!
