Ok i got the server w/o a domain. i need to share files with windows 98. It works fine but requires authentication to connect. Old server was win 98 so it never required any authentication for any client. Is there a way to setup 2003 server so it never asks for authentication???

I think if you set the share and NTFS permissions to full control for everyone then you should be able to connect. Just make sure that you aren't sharing anything important.

i tried that setting everyone to full still restricted access on w2k and win 98 clients.

What about enabling the guest account.

Or setting up an account with a password and then selecting for the stations to remember the password.

i tried net use x: \\server\data\ but errors out
whats the syntax for adding in user/password on it?

I have win95 and win98 clients loging into a sbs 2003 AD domain. You just have to install the dsclient for them, and have all the service packs and most recent ie.

I get prompted for domain authentication, have network shares maped, and run a log-in script that creates map drives.
