we have a 2003 enterprise edition server running SP1 and Exchange 2003. Today we rebooted it because we could not remote desktop into the machine. It sticks at 'applying computer settings' and goes no further. We can map a drive to the c drive and also remotely manage it.

help!!!!

ok we found the problem!!! someone moved one of the built in exchange groups out of the users folder and into a new ou.... a big no no apparently

this prevented the exchange services from starting which in turn stopped the server from loading up properly.

i have the same problem - but its not an exchage server.

purely a file server.

We had the exact same problem, disabling the APC PowerChute services fixed the problem right away. We had to go into safe mode to disable the service.

Same problem here, hanging on Applying Computer Settings. Restarted in Safe mode after reading this thread and un-installed the APC software. System did not hang on next reboot.

Thanks for the info...

Just want to thank everyone, I had the same problem when I eventually got into the server after nearly 10 hours of applying settings... rebooted in safe disabled the apc services, restarted, and the Job was a good un.

Thanks again.
