2003 server sbs partition problem 1

I am troubleshooting an installation of 2003 SBS on a very full partition. The server OS was installed on a 10GB partition and is now at 90% capacity.

I have relocated the logical partition off of the drive and now I have 70 GB of free space to increase the size of the operating system partiton. I am a long time fan and user of partition magic and volume manager, alas 2003 support is missing.

I am searching for reccomendations on how to resize this OS partition. I have heard of Acronis PartitionExpert and Disk Director Suite. Does anyone have first hand experience working with these tools as well as successful OS partition resizing?

I am not clear on exactly what your question is..You state that you relocated the logical partition off the drive and now have 70gb free in a partition. Can't you use what you used to initially move the partition off the drive to relocate the OS that you moved back onto this 70gb partition?

Guess that I am not clear what your dilema is.

I would think the 10GB should be sufficient. I would however suggest that you move Exchange to another partition. I would also move the print spooler and any other programs you can away from the system partition. move your page file too and I am sure you will be surprised how much space is freed up.

the os drive is a physical 80GB hard disk. there were 2 partitions on the drive.

The 2003SBS primary = 10GB
and a second Logical for storage = 70

Since then I have removed the logical partition and relocated it. Now I am searching for a way to increase the partition size of the primary partition.

Am I able to move exchange to another partiton or would that require a reinstallation? It sounds like you are suggesting to mount the print spooler, the page file and exchange away from the OS in a logical store.

Would I need to reinstall to accomplish this?

You would only need to reinstall Exchange and move your existing stores over to the new location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\DefaultSpoolDirectory by double clicking on it and set it to the required area. This will change the print spool area for all printers, to change the print spool for only one printer move down to a printer key and create a value of type REG_SZ called SpoolDirectory and set this as where the spool files should be.

To move the page file you need to right click My Computer. Choose Properties. Click Advanced. Click Settings undeer Performance. Click Advanced. Click the second partition. Set values for upper and loew limits. Click Set. Highlight the C partition. set upper and lower limits to 0. Click set. Reboot.

thank you for the fast response and the great information. I will try those settings and see how it helps.

Are you familiar with the shared fax services in 2003 SBS? Our users utilize the shared fax quite often and use the email receipt as a fax confirmation. I am researching a way to catalog all sent faxes and possibly port that output to the sharepoint SBS intranet page. The same way incoming faxes are displayed.

I know this question is off subject... you've helped in all other areas so I thought I would throw it out there.

I am familiar with the SBS Fax Service but don't know of a way to centrally locate the confirmations. If your users are on XP, they will also be able to open the shared fax on their system and see all of their faxes that were sent. You might want to start there.
