ive worked out a prefered route for my mcse 2003 as follows:

70-290 Managing & Maint. 2003 Environment
70-291 Implement, manage & maint. 2003 net. infrastructure
70-293 palnning & maint. a 2003 net. infrastructure
70-294 Plan, impl. & maint a 2003 AD infrastructure

70-270 install, config. and admin XP Pro

70-297 Designing a 2003 AD and Net. infrastructure

70-228 Install, config. and amin SQL 200 enterprise

I know all these will gain me MCSE but what other certs. could I get by doing these exams eg. MCP, MCSA MCDST etc and what exams will give me these, any help will be greatfully appreciated.

dst is 271 and 272 so it doesnt apply..

Any of those tests should auto give you MCP..

if you take 271 and 272 would that count towards the core operating system step on mcse? this is all very complicated!

No not a core... if you get the mcdst it takes the place of the 1 elective required in the mcsa certification.. (2 tests count as 1 elective)

One more clarification.. MCDST doesnt count for anything twards the MCSE..

thanks very much for that, dont think ill bother with mcsdt then, i want to get mcse in as little exams as possible.

If you also take the 70-229 you'll pick up your MCDBA as well.

hello there,

you can log into ms mcp site. there is a cert planner there.

cheers

if you complete your mcse and take 270, 271, that will give you mcp, mcdst, mcsa, msce, if you get your mcse the others will just be window dressing on the resume, i would advise in taking the security for you elective because you will be able to get 2003 mcse+ security by taking 2 extra test

well i am not sure about the exact test # for dst, but if you do get a dst and a mcse you will also have passed the required test for a mcsa because a mcsa is a combination of dst and mcse test in 2003.

i would also wait until you have taken a 290 level test for 2003 to decide if you really want to commit to taking extra test for other ms certs the 7 required test for 2003 mcse are extremely diffucult this year.

i actaully took college courses for a 2003 mcse track with a mct instructor, and even with the over 300hrs of training the test are still extremely difficult i failed my first 290 test and have been studying about 4 hrs a day since i failed it. the way the questions are worded is what makes the test so difficult, not the "simulations" although the sims suck too...

so unless your are brain dumping or cheating some other way it should take you at least a year of constant studying 4hrs a day or more...

Not to beat a dead horse.. mcdst is 271 + 272...

and Bootcamp people pass the tests without braindumping/cheating in less then 2 weeks
