I installed this at the weekend (Exchange 5.5 on Win 2000 SP4) and the last couple of days has seen very strange behaviour on the MTA X400 queues.

I have 3 Exchange 5.5 servers here, and they simply aren't talking to each other properly, and mail just builds up in the X400 queues, yet I get nothing much in the Event Viewer at all.

Bouncing the MTA service seems to clear it temporariy.

Anyone else seen this?

I just realized that we have two support calls for free because we have a technet abo. So I will make an official call and see what Microsoft says to the problem.

I'll keep you informed...

Thanks. I would be interested to hear what they have to say.

Looks like they just updated the article with that information.

Wonder how long we have to wait for the hotfix?

Microsoft have fix a Hotfix now.

This is not public yet

Call Microsoft Support and tell the problems.

They first told me that I have to pay for the support call, because Exchange 5.5 ist out of live cycle and my two free calls only work for current products.

GREAT!

Now I reopened the call and asked for the hotfix. We will see how long it takes for them to call me back, or send a link for downloading the hotfix.

Looks like the number of issues with this patch continues to grow...

Will MS issue the hotfix in question if you contact them?

Dear fellow Exchange 5.5 users.

I am running on Win2K sp 3.

Because of the Zotob worm, I must update to Win2k sp4 so that I can apply the Win2k patch for the Zotob vulnerability.
(Based on this helpful thread I will hold off on the post sp4 rollup patch for now.)

My question is:
Do you recommend shutting down Exchange services during the installation of the basic Win2K service pack 4?

Many thanks for any comments and suggestions,

Contact MS Support and ask for the unofficial hotfix KB904712.

I had the X.400 MTA problem (W2K, Exchange 5.5 SP4 + W2K SP4 Rollup 1) and explained everything to MS support and they ended up giving me the unofficial hotfix mentioned above. It solved my problems and it looks like it solved someone elses when I do a Google search for KB904712 (take a look at the comments in this link
