Hi, I have followed the step-through guide at microsoft ( to the letter. BUT, when I get to the part where I'm 'configuring your server as a domain controller', I get to step 6 (where it should install DNS/DHCP/AD) I click 'next', it looks like its installing then it comes up with the error 'Active directory installation failed. This operation failed with the following error: The network location cannot be reached' I click ok and it kicks out to the 'configure your server' screen. Please help. I have followed their instruction EXACTLY, it says it should whizz past this but it doesn't! I'm running this server by itself not connected to the network, just trying to set it up by itself. Any help is appreciated.

Well Morse,
it could be that my replay will be irelevant but you mentioned that you are not connected to network so in that case what NIC you selected?When you are not connected to any net you need to select MS loopback adapter as your NIC.
It is software adapter that simulates NIC present and you can select it during installation.If you have adapter in your computer dont select it, select MS Loopback.

Hey sleew,
+hanx for the reply :) I have a generic AT2500 NIC in there I think, I had followed the microsoft instructions exactly, so I hadn't even touched my NIC yet. I'll have a look at installing the loopback-+hanx

Hi Mors;

I may be able to help you out with your problem....but first I need a few details->
1- Is the server on a network?
2- Is Active Directory Installed?
3- Is DNS Installed?
4- Is this Server a Member Server or a Stand Alone Server?
5- What Protocols have you setup?
6- What type of Installation did you perform?

Mors...answer these wuestions and I'll see what I can do for you!
