Trying to run a weekly backup and have it set to overwrite info. It gives me a error saying THE operation was not performed because no unused media was available. Any help I can get will be appreciated.
Check the names of the tapes in the schedule. The error is because your schedule is expecting device X (x being the name of the tape) but you put in tape Y.
This can also happen if you prepare a used tape thus blanking it. Even though you may have used the same name you will have to remake the schedule with the new tape.
I have many 'friday' tapes but only 1 will run without error
Onother possible reason for the error is that you have yet to write a free media label to the tape after preparing it. Backup a single file under the tapes new / intended name.
you could have week1, week2, week3 etc then setup schedules based on those tapes.
Or you could setup a month tape. Run a 'copy' backup manually giving the tape a name say April, then once you have done the backup add a schedule for weekday differentials using the 'April' tape.
Its still good practise to run 4 dailys, 1 weekly and 1 monthly
I don't know when this started but in computer management under removeable storage. I go to physical locations and my tape drive has a red x on it. However it says it is fine in Device manager. I have a tape in the drive and under media it has nothing listed. When I click for eject say no media.
Thanks for you help!!!!!!!11
The only time I have seen the red croses have been after moving the device from one IDE port to another, but then it shows them underneath without the cross.
I have deleted them in the past without a problem
Personally I never look in there. Its the media pool / backup that lets you know what tape is in the drive. This is the quickest way to check whether you have the correct tape name for the backup schedule
Get a new tape and try doing a manual backup and then check the names that appear in the media pool. If its working ok, your new name will appear there after doing a manual backup
