Hi All,

New to this forum and wondering has anyone ever had an issue with miscellaneous Series E phones losing power for about 5 seconds and then coming back online? It seems to be several different PIMS and DLC cards. On first service call I noticed that the power supply in PIM 0's toggle switch got pushed back to 220. I changed back to 120 and reset CP24, but problem is still happening. System is on a UPS. Could this be a pwr-ca issue? Did something get fried with the change in voltage selection? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,Pat

It may not be a power issue. In my organization, on the Dterms with display, after years of use, the display connection becomes loose and everything from the screen disappears. If you toss the phone around or just "power cycle" it, it will come back to life.

This may be what's happening with you too.

But then again, you may have some other problems. (maybe simply a lose wire to the phone somewhere...)

Thanks for the quick reply. This has happened to approx. 20 different Dterms including non display 2 button phones so I doubt it has anything to do with the phone itself.

to verfiy if its a loose connector, next time you note loss of display, lift the handset to see if you have dialtone.

If it was a power supply issue, i would expect problems with all phones in the PIM, and especially the analogs.

When the problem occurs, Calls are disconnected. The Dterm is completely dead on an idle phone when the handset is lifted.

Check the tails inside of the switch, I have seen several; installations where the installer did not put the screws in the tails and they would work loose and cause occasional / random problems. If the tails are in good next thing I would check would be to make sure all the cards are seated firmly. A loose CPU or BUS card in the older 2000's can cause weird problems. Next thing I would look for is when the phone with display's go dead when they come back up do they show Intializing on the display, and for how long? Just a couple of thoughts, repost and let us know.

Thanks Smoom. I will be there tomorrow and let you know what I find.

smoon is correct look there, also check the revision of the PBX I think NEC had a problem with IPS early revisions.

This is a retrofit from an IVS2 to IPS so software is latest and greatest. We did the upgrade about 3 months ago but problem happened to 1 user before the upgrade. Of course I was not able to duplicate the issue while onsite.

If the users display is corrected without any known activity or cable movement, then likely its not the cables connection. What I would look at is...

Does this happen on one card, PIM, or FP.

Has HW been addressed Station card, Bus Card/Cable, or FP card even the PW121.

Last very important is there any stray voltage on LTC cables or house wiring terminating to same block LTC's are on?
