Hi,

I have been told that it is possible to have two DHCP servers in the same domain, managing the same scope??

Is this possible, and if so how??

Cheers.

Exampel :
Server one, on subnet 1 : Scope 1 between 192.168.1.100-150
Server one, on subnet 1 : Scope 2 between 192.168.2.151-200
Server two, on subnet 2 : Scope 1 between 192.168.2.100-150
Server two, on server 2 : Scope 2 between 192.168.1.151-200

Now you will have a redundant dhcp server enviroment.
(You must configure the router to pass dhcp request between the subnets (rfc 1542), or install a dhcp relay agent on each subnet.)

Important - You cannot have scopes that go into eachother.
Its good to have the 75/25 % rule between the subnets.
Tip : The first scope should be able to support all clients in the network ... This way you will only use the second scope if the dhcp server 1 is down ...

Cheers. However if I had Server One fail, I would loose half of scope 1 and half of scope 2. Is there no way of ensuring that all the scopes are working even if one out of the 2 servers failed??
