2 scanners 1 system?

I was running a Minolta film scanner and
a Visioneer flatbed scanner on the same PII system
with Windows 2000 Pro. Plenty of memory
and HD space. Playing musical chairs with the USB port.
After a while, months, the sytem did a melt-down and everything had to be reinstalled from scratch. Could it have been because of the scanner setup? Am afraid to reinstall the second scanner.

What do you mean by a meltdown? Did it overheat?

Purchase an inexpensive powered USB hub.

No,no. I mean the OS gurgled a couple of times ...icons disappearing, Windows explorer refusing to open, and then it died. My hardware guru had to completely strip the drive to be able to reinstall the OS.

That's a good idea. I tried a couple of cheap UNpowered ones
which were not functional in the circumstance.
