Hi,

I have 2 servers (a B50 and a pseries) and they are using "Spanning Tree" when I boot over the network.

Even so, the ports used by these servers are NOT using the "negociation Spanning Tree". The ports are configured to function in "portfast". It's the guy working in networking that confirm me this.

1st Question:
Is there something, that I don't know, configure on my AIX server that tells to use "Spanning Tree" even if the ports are configured to NOT using this protocol?

2st Question:
When I "network boot", I've always this informationnal message. BOOTP: Wait 60 Seconds for Spanning Tree..
Is it possible to configure it at 30 seconds?

Any help will be appreciate. I am using AIX 5200-04.

I turned the spanning tree setting off because the wait annoyed me... I haven't had any problem and my network admin assures me we don't need it on. So double check with your networking people and if they don't care, see if you can get away with turning it off.
Cheers,
David

Ok, but how can I turn off the spanning tree on my AIX Server? I double check with my networking people and they assure that their port are configure to not use the spanning tree...

Reneford I have never heard of any OS providing the Spanning Tree protocol. This is a switch function only, so you may want to have the networking guys look further into this for you.

Ok, thank you.

But my network guy still assured that their switch are not using spanning tree, that's why I was thinking that their is a possibility to turn it off on the AIX OS.

Thank you, I know now that it's not on my side.

Last question guy...

If the switch are configure to use "portfast", is this disable "spanning tree" automatically?

when you setup the ipl config in SMS there is a option to turn off spanning tree

As plamb noted, I was referring to turning spanning tree off at the sms level, which is what I assumed you meant for "network boot."
Good luck!

Ok, in my menu SMS, I don't have the possibility to turn off spanning tree. My machine type is a B50, I also have pseries and H70 and I never seen this option in my SMS menu.

From main SMS menu, in the Setup Remote IPL menu, you should be allowed to set network parameter for each adapter.
The Spanning Tree setup isn't in the IP parameter menu but in the Adapter Configuration menu

I know, but in the adapter configuration menu, i don't have the option to turn off Spanning Tree, and I check all option in my SMS menu and I don't have this option.
