Folks,

I am running a 3Com NBX 3000 with 3Com phones. I am also running 2 separate companies from this switch and have a need to setup a couple of my employees up with 2 outgoing numbers with separate caller ids. These folks do financial work for both companies and need the caller id to show the proper company when they make the calls.

My questions are:
• can it be done
• what model phone do I need
• and most important is how do I do it?

Well,

This is a thought, but I am not sure it works. I believe you may be able to setup a seperate fake user, then you can set this user to the CLID information you want advertised. This is done with your dial plan, if you need help here I can elaborate more, but there are already some good posts on how to set up CLID.

Once you do this you could do a class of service overide. It is feature 433, the you put in the extension of the fake user with the correct caller ID, and then you put in the VM password for that user. Then you dial as that user. I know that in Call Detail Reporting these calls are shown up under the user that you used to overide, which makes me think that this would change the Caller ID as well, but I haven't actually tried it before.

The only other solution would be to set them up with two different phones, or give them a soft phone to use, and let them have two NICS in the PC and then simply set the softphone for the NIC that has the Mac Address for the phone that is associated with that user.

You could also make use of 9+number and 8+number

Then setup the 9=number to send xxx caller ID in the dialplan
Then setup the 8=number to send yyy caller ID in the dialplan
This would be done for T1/PRI channels in *0008 extension and *0009 extension

This can easily be done for analog lines as well... (as long as the analog lines have the phone number you want to send...)

I have done this many times... I have one client that I have 7, 8, and 9 all displaying diferent caller ID numbers so that they can call as 3 different companies...

This question was asked a long time ago but I don't see why you wouldn't set up Direct Line Appearances on a 3102 phone and then tell the user to simply select the line they want. This would be basic key sstem behvior.

You could also create separate dial plans for each of the phones (you have 32K entries to work with -- you should be ok... :) and then assign one number as the dial 9 route and one as the dial 8 route. The dial plan is one of the product's strength's. There is a GUI tool called the Dial Plan Editor that can help. Check the 3Com web site downloads
