1. That file makes your kernel source tree version 2.4.21 which is the newest.

2. It's not a good idea to copy kernel from one system to another (but can be done). You only need to copy 'vmlinuz' and pray.
In general you should compile the kernel on the new system.

The kernel is not that complicated.
You are best off compiling it for the hardware you plan on running it on however.
There is much to learn young grasshopper.

That patch will do you no good unless you know how to compile kernels.

RPMs are the best bet if you do not have the time to learn.

Try reading docs form to get started.
