Hi all

Having a slight problem. I have three oracle database instances, but for some reason the server will only allow me to have 2 up at once?

Im quite new to this anyone have any ideas, i wrote and used some scripts for the db creation and created all three, if i disable them all each one of the instances start up normally, but if there are 2 up and i try to start the third one i get an:

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

Any ideas anyone?

I have a Windows 2000 server with 4 megs of ram 2-2.2ghz processors. I currently am running 6 production instances on this server in a production environment. The ora-3113 error can be a hard one to figure out. It most likely could be that you do not have enough memory to bring the third database up.

You may want to try lowering the below parameters in your init.ora file: db_block_buffers and shared_pool_size

Well, this is Solaris 8 64 bit running on a SunFire V480, running oracle 8.1.7 64 bit, with 2x900Mhz UltraSPARC processors with 4GB of RAM.

It is a nasty error indeed, seems to mean many things, the memory and processor are seemingly handling, with IDLE around 95%, MEM 3579M free, so he doesnt seem to be busy...

Could this be a licensing issue? Perhaps ive entered it wrong... I know we own a full license for it but how do you go about telling oracle that it is licensed?

Much thanks for your response

This may be due to the lack of semaphores. Check ipcs -b Regards, Dima

You may also try to decrease PROCESSES parameter in init.ora file(s). The formula is SUM(PROCESSES)+MAX(PROCESSES)+ 10*COUNT()<SEMMNS : totals are for instances Regards, Dima

Thank you kindly my good man! Just nudged up me kernel sem paramateres and hes happy as larry now!

Thanks again.
