is this possible. I thought had done this years ago.

I have 2 faxes sharing the same phone line both used for outgoing faxes only, the problem is when you try to send out a fax the other machine recives it.

set them both to manual receive

if that doesn't work use a fax sharing device or a exclusion device

Are they both Brother brand? I had this problem once, called Brother tech support and they said to turn off Easy Receive feature on both machines, and that fixed the problem. If they are not Brother machines maybe there is a similar feature you can turn off...

Put the line in the first fax, and use the tel port on that fax for the second one.
If the first one is busy the second one cant get a line.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

You can also set the first fax on answer in 2 rings, and the second fax on manual receive or in let it answer in 6 rings.

Possibly one or both of the machines are set for pulse dialing. If this is the case, then the other machine, while monitoring the line for incoming calls, detects this as a ring signal. Just check that both are set for tone dialing and then you can leave both in AUTO receive mode. DTMF dialing codes should never be detected as ring.

I know you said outgoing only, but for those that want incoming also, then the following should be correct.
The fax machine with the shortest number of rings-to-answer will collect all incoming faxes. The other fax machine should be ready to receive if the first goes offline due to memory full, paper out, or any other receive failure of the first fax.

Regards, Munz

I've set up a couple of customers this way for multiple fax machines.

get the telco to give you two numbers on the same line. this is sometimes called "teen service", "Teen line", "dialed number identification", or "distinctive ring," you get a different ring for each number such as one long ring, one short one long, or two short rings.
next get a telephone answering device that recognizes the distinctive ring such as Vikingelectronics LSD-2 that will answer the call and depending on which ring is heard will route the call to the correct machine.

outgoing calls are not heard by the other machine and so will not interfere with each other.
