Hey guys - am really in need of help on this one.

We just finished going through a merger and are in the process of moving over fax lines & etc.
Well, both Verizon (our service) and Cavalier (theirs) aren't really being all that cooperative about this, and the lease on the old building is up today. The catch is the fax line is still over there. (And now it's my fault, the joys of being low on the totem poll.)

Is it at all possible to have the fax line forwarded to one of our (already in use) fax lines without too much interruption in service? Or is there another temporary solution until the service providers decide to step it up a bit?

Order call forwarding from the provider, they can get it done in less than a day if they want

One of many possible options:
Talk with the vendor and ask them to add forwarding to the line them physically forward the phone line to your existing line. This can normally be done very quickly.
Then you need to get the line switched over to your system, which could be through moving the lines over to your location or if you have PRI circuits, just have them send it to you on that and treat it in your own PBX if available.

Any idea of whether or not it will mess with receiving/sending faxes?

no problem with sending or receiving faxes. forwarding the line will get you up today or tomorrow. downside is that you will be paying a local call charge for each fax that is forwarded. later when you get a chance you can get "distinctive number" put on your local fax line (this is sometimes known as "teen line" or "second number" but is just having a second telephone number that rings with a different ring when someone calls it) then have the local telco port the number to you. (assuming that both businesses were in the same "wire center" to allow number portability.

Nope,

But there maybe a cost associated with adding call forwarding from you telco company to install this feature on the phone line.

All this feature of forwarding is doing, is forwarding the old fax number to the new fax number.
Outgoing faxes will have the new number displayed, and if anyone calls the old number it will forward to the new number.

If you are faxing out and someone calls, the inbound fax will get a busy signal, and the fax sending the information to you will try again later. Just like all other faxes.

another option is to get the 1 number as an identacall on the other fax line cheaper than forwarding lines
when you forward a line you are still paying for the 2 lines
about $40 each
with identacall you pay for 1 line and $5 or $10 for the additional number

works like the old party lines main number is a standard ring second number is a double ring
