I am using ACT v6.

I am trying to setup 2 different databases, which need to have 2 different layouts, bg images, sync, etc. On the same computer?

I have the 2 databases working but when I change the bg image, or layout on either and then shut it down and then start up the other database, it changed also. So changing things for 1 of the databases also changes the same things for the other database????? I guess the ACT program is looking in the same place for the same files as the other, regardless of which db is starting.

Shouldn't each new database be able to have its own layout and bg image for the fields window as well as sync settings?

Also, is it possible to have 2 separate installs of ACT v6 on the same computer to eliminate this layout, sync and bg problem? Or even be able to have both up and running at the same time?

I am saving the layouts with 2 different file names, each in the separate shared folder where each database is located already.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

With ACT! 6.0, you had to change both the database and layout when switching.
There were some add-ons that could automate this like: With ACT! 7.0 and later, this was part of the program.

Sync settings is more complex to set up with multiple databases in the older versions of ACT!
To have one machine holding multiple master databases with ACT! 6.0, I'd recommend getting AutoAdmin - This will do the administration on multiple databases without you having to log into each and do it manually.

I implemented it this way and had 3 DBs. Very easy and working.

Create DB1 and configure it the way u want.
Close the DB and run ACTDIAG.EXE
Backup the registry and name it DB1.reg
Tip: select backup all items.

Do the same thing for DB2 naming it DB2.reg
Create a BAT files for DB1 & DB2 containing the following--
change for ur system - this is my BAT file
==================================
D:
cd "D:\My DOCUMENTS\ACT-DT"
regedit /s DB1.reg
cd "D:\APPLICATIONS\ACT! 6\"
Act.exe
====================================

I used a shortcut to run the bat file.

What u are doing is to change the registry entries prior to starting each DB. When u want to change DBs, close ACT! and reopen using the other shortcut.

All the info is in the registry which is why it changes the settings for both when u do it as u are.

Thanks ruggb, I will try that. I appreciate the help!
