HELP! I've had 2 4424LD phones on ports on a 412 TDL card for months and months. I replaced a cord on the cross connect and NOW, if both are plugged into their respective ports, both phones go dead. If I unplug either phone, the other phone comes to life. If I remove both power supplies, both phones work fine, but of course, neither display works. This is making me crazy! Your help is appreciated!

Sounds to me like you have a reversal some place.

Perhaps in one of the Power Cords?

Doesn't make a lot of sense, considering the Connection to the WALL JACK of each phone is a SINGLE PAIR, with polarity a non-issue, and the POWER SUPPLIES being local for each set.

Are these GENUINE AVAYA power supplies, or after market?

Either one should work, but there are considerations about the After Market ones.

Exactly which wire/cord did you change?

All Genuine AVAYA parts, including power supplies. I was simply cleaning up a bundled wire at the cross connect. I installed one of the proper length and bang, the phone went out of service. When I checked the other 4424LD, it was out of service also. I put the original cords back in place and the problem still exists. Who knows. It's just so strange. This should be such a simple thing. What makes me mad is that it took two perfectly working stattions and broke them both in the name of cleaning up the wire closet! I've even tried my spare new power supply and a spare 2242LD. Same issue.

Unplug one phone and Check the extension number on the other and then do the same for the other phone.

check your wireing in the phone closet, you may have split the pairs

Well, no split pairs - rechecked all wiring connections, on-and-on-and-on. Both ports were "renumbered" to the TDL card at least a year ago, and have been working fine. The Final resolution was to renumber one of the two ports back to the original port (logical ID), then to use another TDL port for that phone, thus renumbering it to the new "unused" TDL port. Lucky for me, I had three spare TDL ports. One final note: The original TDL port still works for any 44XX phone, as long as it doesn't need a power supply. Go figure! I'm betting that the port on my TDL is not quite right for some reason. No errors or indications regarding the card in the system logs at all. At least both phones work again! Thanks for all of your help. AV in Memphis

I know if you exceed the limit of 48 4424LD phones on the system, display's will drop. Sounds like a power issue to me. Did you swap the 412TDL? Can you get both phones working w/ anything but a 4424LD set, this would eliminate wiring issue.

Figure it out damn-it!

Thanks for the reply. I only have four phones on the 412TDL, only two of which are 4424LD. These are also the only 4424LDs on the system. Yes, both phones would work with any non-powered set plugged in (I used two 4406D's). It was a strange problem. I'm really thinking that my 412TDL may have a problem with a port, but all inidicators are ok on the system screens regarding the board and there are no errors. I only have one 412TDL, so now that I've moved one of the 4424LDs to a spare port, everything seems to be fine and both phones work again. Thanks to all!

My guess is that you have a miswired port on the patch panel or whatever your 412 TDL amphenol connector goes to. The other possibility is a miswired or incorrect power cable to one of the 4424LD+'s. Are you using the standard small black power supply for each 4424LD+? If so, is each of the RJ11 cables from the power supply "Tel" port to the 4424LD+ a 2-pair (4-conductor) cable? If not - the phone display will not work. Maybe, one of these cables is only a 2-conductor cable - which would cause the display not to work. The cable from the power supply "line" port to the wallplate only needs to be a single-pair (2 conductor) cable.

Tom, thank for the follow up. Yes, 2 wire from the patch panel to the power supply, then 4 wire from the power supply to the phone. All genuine AVAYA parts. I also agreed that is was a possible mis-wire, but it's so strange that the phones have been working for almost a year and simply replacing a cable brought all of this on? Anyway, by moving one set to a spare port, all is ok.
