There are a lot of sites with Digital Terminals 20xx extensions installed.
Those cannot upgrade to the 3.0GA but they must have a stable software from Avaya. Avaya can't get away with the messge "upgrade to latest build" if there is no latest build other then the one used.
There will be a 3.0 maintenance release soon were the knowledge of the 2.1.35 build will be used in 3.0.
A major reason to use the newest software is commonly because sales people intend to sell the latest features to customers, so engineering don't have a choice.
We, the "bleeding edge" have at least the guts to sell and install the latest features and to be honest, most of the bugs are never detected at one particular customer and most customers using 3.0 are quite happy with it.
My advise to you cobragb is not to wait with the latest software until all bugs are gone, if you do so then you are still selling 3.0 while we sell 3.1, who will be the on who sells most?
Sorry if I offended you. I did intend for my remark to tongue-in-cheek. It seems that all companies, not just Avaya beta test their software on the public. One large company comes to mind - Microsoft. If we waited for them to get all the bugs out, we wouldn't be communicating over this internet connection.
I am only waiting for the first maintenance release to jump into the 3.x world mostly because I don't have the need for any of the features yet. But I will be swimming shortly.
I think part of the reason they released version 3.0 to DS only was to cover for the inherent problems with the DT handsets. I think they can't get them right on the IP Office. When they fix one bug, they create another five.
So instead of concentrating on fixing problems on 7 year old handsets, they can concentrate fixing faults on the new features and handsets. I know a few guys on here are going to jump to the defence of the DT handsets but will have questions in the back of their heads like only if ? and why couldn't they ?
i know i'm having a whinge (yes aussies whinge too) but at least this system keeps everyone interested. Can't think of another system like it!
