I am new to the cisco router world, I have a 1811w set up and accessing the web using http but can not pass email from the isp email server to clients using outlook, how do I activate the ports on the 1811 to pass information.

That depends on how you have things set up...do you use an in-house Exchange server, or do you have Outlook set up on clients to go get mail through the POP server of the ISP mail?

Burt

Outlook is getting mail directly from the pop servers at the ISP. We do not use exchange servers.

Well, by devault none of the ports are blocked on a router and therefor do not need to be "activated". I would imagine that perhaps it is something you're doing in trying to set this up in Outlook...
Post a sh run if you want, just for kicks.

Burt

i would say post the config and the type of access you have to the internet..
it could be that there are some acls blocking if you used sdm.. or it could be a setting problem on the wan possibly.

In the SDM go to configuration > additional tasks and find the ACL Editor section. see if there are any ACL's listed in here other than the defaults. have you done the one step lockdown? In reference to e-mail specifically the ports commonly used are port 25(SMTP),and 110(POP3). i'm assuming your internet is working fine? Since you are using an ISP's mailservers yous hould not need to do any natting.

access-list 1xx permit tcp any 110 x.x.x.x y.y.y.y 110

i think the acl if necessary would be something like that. permit tcp port 110 from any source to your destination network.

If using secure sockets, then 995 and/or 2525 may be necessary also. Like we said, post a sh run.

router>en
router#sh run
