I've just bought a Smart & Friendly cdrw and when I installed it, I booted the pc and I'm now getting a "1762 - Configuaration has changed" error. Obviously my configuration has changed!!! I seem to be able to exit out of bios and windows loads fine. I've even been able to use the cdrw to burn cd's.

I just want to get rid of the error message and find out what they're talking about.

P.S I've already set up the cr-rom as master and the cdrw as slave. Both are on the secondary ide channel. My hard disk is on the primary ide on it's own.

Anyone got any clues???

Did you receive a setup disk with the machine? That was how it was done with early models and I don't know if it held true through the entire model run. You booted with setup and the booted program updated the configuration.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
Older systems, and most of the Aptiva line, store a copy of the configuration into cmos. Go into configuration mode (via bios, setup disk, or whichever for you model), view the configuration and verify that it is correct. Next, save changes. The change saved is the new configuration. This should fix the problem, if not, let me know.

It could be something else like needing a bios update, but it is probably just the configuration.

Jeremy Hannon
Brainbench "Most Valuable Professional" for Computer Technicians
<A HREF=" TARGET="_new">
