1720 VPN - How? 1

How might I set up a 1720 as a VPN appliance? Also, does the unit need to be in use as a router or can I just use the LAN port and route VPN traffic to it?

Wow...try password recovery then...
console in, and send a break while the image is decompressing (turn the router off, then back on, and initiate a break within 20 seconds or so). You should now be at
rommon1>
so...
rommon1>confreg 2142
rommon2>reset
Then the router boots up. After it does, answer no to configuration blablabla, and yes to terminate autoinstall (if asked). Then
router>en
router#sh start

Post the result, or to completely reset everything and start over...
router#conf t
router(config)#config-register 0x2102
router(config)#exit
router#erase start
router#reload
Then the router reloads with no configuration and no password. Then just enter all the commands from the other link WITHOUT the VPN module in.

Reset it and redid the commands. Still the same error. Is the IOS too old?

Could be---I thought that the VPN module was goofing you up. If you can, bet one of the IOS's listed above.
