Hi All, Have issues with a 1700 runing 12.2(4). I am trying to hook up a modem to the aux port, (done correctly many times before! NOT being stoopid...). My problem is that there is no 'modem autoconfigure discovery' command available on this router/ios. I am using multitech modems in all locations, and had to use autoconfigure discovery in all other locations, as multitech aren't on the modemcap list. The call does go through, and the other end does pick up, but I get garbled text (EG. B„kFí«{FïoƔƔ„ï þ) and if I key return the call drops. Anyone know what is going on here?

Try the command on one of the lines instead of the aux port, if it works then the aux port may not support the command, if it doesn't work then the IOS may not support it.

Cant use comand on line either...

Must be something in that IOS then, I suggest to go to an IOS in which you know it works.

Does the autoconfigure command work at all? If you can do 'autoconfigure type default' you may just have to use a different modem. You may also try some of the other built in capfiles:
default
codex_3260
usr_courier
usr_sportster
hayes_optima
global_village
viva
telebit_t3000
microcom_hdms
microcom_server
nec_v34
nec_v110
nec_piafs
cisco_v110
mica

Your other option is to create a custom modemcap file.
You also realize that you'll only be able to squeeze 9600 baud out of the aux line right at a speed of 38400, right?
