I'm running a 500v2 with R9.0.3.941 and there is an analog extension that dials *17 to check their voicemail, but has to put in their extension number every time. The user has the VXXX (XXX = extn number) source number. I tried to create customer short codes for that user to try and make it work but no luck. I was wondering, is this just how it's always been for analog phones? I rarely deal with analog extensions having voicemail and when they do I've never had anyone complain about having to put in their extension number. This is Voicemail Pro running on a UC Module.

When system says "enter your extension", if they're calling from their own extension, they can just press # key.

If you remove the U from the *17 shortcode it will stop doing Anon Login and won't prompt for Ext and PW if the Source Number is correct.

Don't change the voicemail type, ip office mode is for simple people. :)

Just tell them to hit # like mforrence said.

IP Office mode is what they call "User friendly", but in a way I agree using Intuity Mode, it is more secure.
I just advised that as it is the easiest way to get what you want.
Beside that, Europeans hate voicemail, they want a real person at the phone so we hardy use it at all.
99% of the sold VM Pro installations use it only as a "Deluxe" answering machine or for a single menu, total waste of money but good for my salary[2thumbsup].

BTW, you can extend the *17 shortcode like this:
SC = *17
TN = ?UD#
Action = VoicemailCollect

If they need to access the VM from a different location then create a new schortcode for it.

We use it a lot but not for voicemail but for advanced call routing.

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I have a few customers on this side of the pond that indeed hate voicemail as well. We've had to setup their forward/no-answer to the receptionist, who then just writes down messages and emails people. I just don't get it.

I hate Voicemail as well, I never listen to it, delete new messages unread and always deny I received them.

Over here it is more common that somebody makes the appointments for you instead of letting the caller leave a voicemail message.
Or the question could be answered by somebody else.
That is where a good ticket system works very well.

I figure if it's important, it'll be in writing.

Normally yes :)
Us Europeans are just not very happy with voicemail and personally i hate it.
I only leave a message when it is really important and then people mostly call back.

But you answer the phone most of the time or call back anyway :)

In VM Pro client go to "default start points" > "collect" and add a "get mail" action with specific tab set to "callers mailbox"
