If anyone fancies saving money and isn't bothered about staying supported/risking it then go ahead they all work great, you don't need to use the 96xx's :)

I should add....as long as you aren't using one of the "trouble" routers , but they stop the 96's too :)

In the docs, depending on which one, 2 or 4 licenses are included with R8.

In trying to set this up, I have the "Enable remote extension" checked for the extension and "Enable remote worker" is checked for the user but their Profile is set to Basic. This should be fine according to the docs and it seems fine that I can check off up to 4 of these before it complains.

I am testing with either a 5610 or 9608, both are acting the same and have no audio.

I am pretty sure everything is correct on the firewall but with random ports flying around on both sides (both sides are Fortigates and I think it modifies the source port to make this more... fun) I am not 100% sure. I will try another router on Sunday (Netgear).

In SysMonitor for the RTP, the IPO is clearly trying to send the RTP to the private IP address and SSA does not show a 'Remote Media Address' in the extension status.

Any other hints or obvious things I missed?

amriddle my sales manager owes you this star so here you go , we have one big soloution going in next month and have a shed load of 46** and 56** that will do the job , best thing is the sites is its a temporary site office with loads of satalite offfices on a large multi scheme construction zone .

Well, I found a fast way to check another router at the 'client' end and same result.

(2nd router is Actiontec)

You will find that one way audio is usually down to the system side router and port forwarding not being followed as programmed, Drayteks are worst for this and need to be rolled back a few firmware levels to work, some home routers can be troublesome but it seems to be the system side most of the time :)

I just tested a 5610 (still has VPN software on it but diabled) and it works the same.
I saw in a powerpoint where all IPPhones should work but only tested with the 9600 and the manager help files say only 9600 are supported :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

It's good that they all work, only ever using 96's makes it a really expensive solution and the 46/56's are almost bullet proof :)

Can you tell us about those troubled routers?

The 9608 is not that expensive at all.
Just sligtly more then the 1616 which suck anyway :)

Nearly twice the price of the 1608's though, while nasty are good enough for most Scrooges :)

I turned on logging of traffic on the system side for all allowed and blocked traffic. I am not seeing the RTP packets hit the firewall/router at all. I can try to forward all traffic from the external IP regardless of ports and see if that helps but that is not a 'proper' fix.

Can you confirm in SysMonitor with it working, that the IP Office has the far-side LAN IP in the RTP line that I pasted? And also when the 'Remote media address' in SSA is populated? (only during a call or all the time?)

Thanks.

But cheaper then the 5610 where :)
I did not try very long but it seems that the 5610 is more stable for me then the 9608 or 9650 i have too.

nlasch, did you turn off 801.q on the phone itself?
When you do nto do that then the RTP traffic can be filtered out on the router on the phone site.
