Hi Everyone,

As usual we go to Avaya and they treat you like children not engineers and eventually except there is a problem and take forever to fix. Can anyone confirm they have 1616 not 1616-i with 2 BM32 button modules running on the IP 500 R6.0.14. If not can you send me the version you have it operational on and we can try and change to suit.

Thanks,
Marshall

separate power, not PoE or a 1151, is needed for 1616 to run BM32 modules when you have more than one. There is a jack under the phone.

DBM32's were not supported until Q3.

the problems is the 2nd module doesn't update or locks up after a short time when plugged in. Been a pain for 5 months!!

I never had problems with 1616 and two BM32 with just PoE from the switch. Several releases, no problem. That's why I asked what the exact problem is.

About 'extra power'. The Avaya recommendation is the same for 1600 as for other series, but the 1600 is the only one with option for a sepatate power source. That's why I think, it's nonsense.
Maybe it actually is the problem, because you have two different power sources attached?

Albus you must be the only one because I have spoke to several dealers and distrubutors across the world and they all have the same issue with the second BM32. Can I ask what version of firmware on the 1616 handset and the IP office version.

Thanks,
Marshall

The one that belongs to the release. One system I know is OK, has two phones with two modules. It's 6.0(8)
What version do you have problems with?

The systems I have tested this on are as follows:-

5.0.8 Firmaware on phone 1.2.xx-1.3
6.0.8 Firmaware on phone 1.2.xx-1.3
6.0.14 Firmware on phone 1.2.xx-1.3

The second module always restarts and locks up on POE on the following switches.

Cisco Catalyst 2960
Cisco Catalyst 3750
Cisco Catalyst 3560
Netgear FS728tp
HP Procurve
Dell Powerflex I think.

Power adapters 5v unit and inline 48v unit. Same issues

Where are you in the world Albus2?

Thanks,
Marshall

How big are the sites where you have them working and how many and what type of other phones do they have?

Ours is an IP 500v2 with about 10 1616L and 90 1608L

also, i have tried combinations of PoE and 16xx power supply.

Currently with PoE off the port and using the 16xx power supply.

We used to have 1616 with BM32 as operator phones. Now, I prefer 9600
But there are not so many with two modules. Anyway I have no report of a problem with it. The site I mentioned has upgraded from several 5.0 releases to 6.0(8) at the moment. It's a IP500v1.
PoE switch is hp ProCurve.
It's a SCN with 2 units and about 100 user.

I always use the phone firmware that belongs to the release. Don't mix it.

I don't think we have a IP500v2 with such a combination. They all have 9650 and up to three SBM24 or just a 1616.

I'm from Switzerland.

Thanks Albus. I have tried this on a IP Office 500 v1 that was a release 4.2 upgraded to 5.0 and all firmware matched but always a problem with 2 add on modules.
