Hi Everyone,

As usual we go to Avaya and they treat you like children not engineers and eventually except there is a problem and take forever to fix. Can anyone confirm they have 1616 not 1616-i with 2 BM32 button modules running on the IP 500 R6.0.14. If not can you send me the version you have it operational on and we can try and change to suit.

Thanks,
Marshall

I've been waiting quite a while to get a 1616i working with 2 BM32. Major issues and been waiting for firmware for about 4 months. I belive the same issues exist on the 1616 and when connected to Comms Manager.

First unit ok, 2nd unit is useless.

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for the response this really is a nightmare this is a new install and the client wants a fix for this. I have external power supplies 115d and the 5v power supply made for the 1616 handset but as usual nothing works. I really hate the fact that Avaya treat you like a child. Have you tried this have you plugged the phone in all the stupid questions that if I had not tried this I would not be ringing them for support.

Thanks,
Marshall

You need the plug in power supply for more than one BM32. just one will run on PoE. And yes, I had to jump hoops to get this moving.

If they stick to the last update (last week) then I should have new firmware tomorrow. but it has been put back once or twice before. This currently holds the record on our CRM for the longest email train for amount of emails and high level Avaya peeps in the cc!!!

Is yours the same issue, 1st BM32 is fine but 2nd is crap?? If so, get it logged and hopefully all the chasing I have done for the last 4 months will help somebody else as well.

Hi Jamie,

That is correct the first BM32 will run with or without the power supply but as soon as you add a second and the power supply the second unit runs for 10 minutes sometimes and 10 seconds the next. If you pull the power adapter and restart the phone and add on modules everything works again for a while and then it crashes. I have tried different firmaware different unit, different power supplies but still the problem continues to happen. I have spoke to a few different tech guys and like I said have you got an external power supply is always the first question when I say yes and I swapped the first unit with the second etc they are suddenly stumped.

Thanks,
Marshall

If you are wondering why good support is hard to come by perhaps it's because Avaya are canning all their best guy's and have outsourced the Engineering dept to Luxoft and pushed most of the tech stuff off to Romania including the FT's/Beta's :)

I would settle for any support. My 10 year knows how to plug a phone in??

Thanks,
Marshall

Give me a day or two and I'll let you know if I get the firmware and if it works.

Thanks Jamie,

I appreciate it.

I have been told by a reliable source there is a fix for this. Has anyone got it yet and if so could you share with the rest of us please?

Thanks,
Marshall

Got an email yesterday from tier 3 and we are still waiting for the firmware.

yes if someone has the fix, can you send it also to me? or at least point me where i can get them. after all the configuration, just a buggy BM32 keeps the customer from saying implementation successful

No fix yet. You need to go through your normal channels and raise the bug and then you should get updates from Avaya. The fix will be new firmware. I think it is going to be new phone firmware but until I have it in my hand I do not know.

I am in direct contact with tier 3 on this and still waiting. I am now into month 4 or 5.

It is obviously a real big problem or it wouldn't have taken this long.

Jamie, do you have an update about this ?
Do you know if it is fixed in 6.1 ?
If you don't about the 6.1 then i will try it tommorow myself :)

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Not yet, but I have been asked for a site address so tier 3 can go sort it for when they do have it.

I don't have the modules to test on 6.1 but the firmware is the same as 6.0.14 so I would think not.

Just a wee update. I have esclated to Tier 3 and they are aware of the issue and have stated the manual had a product correction in release 4.2 stated only one unit was supported.

Unfortunately for me I had purchased a 1416 handset and 2 DB32 add-ons to try and get a work around. But you guessed it!! Does not work same issue.

Has anyone got a 9630 or above with 2 of the 24 button add-ons working on the IP office. I really need a fix for this and I am sick of spending money and getting ridiculus poor service. I have already spend a fortune on Avaya Support only to find out there is no fix but they are working on it. I have tried to get our Disti to test the 1416 but would not and now I have 1416 and add-ons gathering dust on the shelf.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on the 9600 series with add-on support please.

Thanks,
Marshall

I have a customer with a 9650 and 3 SBM24 attached. Power comes from the PoE switch. It works, at least I never heard something else.

But we have some 1616 and 1616-I with just one BM32 and they make trouble. When the phone or the system is restarted, the phone is well, but the button module is dead. Unplug and re-plug the BM32 helps. I'm not sure if it's just 1.3000 or other versions too.

Anyone?

Thanks Albus2,

I have tried different firmware versions on release 5.0 to release 6.0. I have tried 1616, 1616-i and 1416 none will run 2 modules but all will lock up with one unit. I need a fix for this and I wanted to confirm what system you have the 9650 running on please.

Thanks,
Marshall

Always use the versions that belong to the release that's running on the box.
The problem with button modules on the digital 1416 sets is well known here at tek-tips but maybe still not at Avaya. Hint: use Q3 2010 release.

But this has nothing to do with one or two modules. What exactly is the problem?

By the way, I use just PoE in case of a IP-Phone or a 1151D for a digital set. Avaya says you have to use a 1151D even for a IP-Phone with PoE, but since there is no separate plug for it this must be nonsense.
