Does anyone have any experience with this telephone? One of our departments is considering an upgrade to IP phones so cost is an issue. And the 1608 looks pretty nice for under $130. Thank you.
We are deploying the 1608's. We hate them. Not just the design, but the lack of buttons, limited display and no sip potential.
We also have several of these phones that the top half of the display is fading. You can only see the bottom half of the display and the contrast adjustment doesn't affect it.
Functionally they are a decent phone and if you can get by with 8 buttons then $130 is certainly a good price.
I personally would buy up any 46XX phones I could get my hands on until Avaya figures out we hate these phones.
I just installed a 1608L on Ip Office 'Thursday. It has a better & brighter white display than the first series 1608. Speakerphone is not as good as 9630/9640/950 Phones. The larger dispay & feel of the 96xx phones are better. If you do get 1608, get the newer ones 1608L (1608I). just My 2 cents.
Functionally they are good phones though they have their little things to get used to..
On the IP level they react a little diffrent, like with LLDP.Depending on the type of switches you have this means that you can end up with diffrent port programming for your 96xx connected ports, than for your port connecting 16xx's
so try not to mix.
The 16xx 's have paper labels.. 10 mins for printing a new label every time you change a button assignment adds up.
If you need more buttons consider the 1616's
The 16xx's are native supported from 5.2.x, earlier versions will support them as 4610 alias, but that messes up your button assignment.
My company had installed a number of these 1608 and 1616 phones on one of our projects, to be exact 64. And out of 64 phones, 34 of those were BAD OUT OF THE BOX. They would not come up or the displays did not work.
I had another customer that refused to take the 1400 and 1600 series phones. They said that the phones were SHxx and to take them back.
I am ordering nothing but the 5400 and 5600 series phones and would advise all of you to do the same. This may show AVAYA that no one wants these phones and that they should stop making them.
I WAS INFORMED THAT THE 5400 AND 5600 SERIES WAS GOING TO BE DISCONTINUED THIS YEAR BECAUSE IT COST MORE TO MANUFACURE.
What idiot at AVAYA thought that the 1400 and 1600 series phones were a good idea should be fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!
