Dear Colleagues

One case I wanted to discuss with you regarding an important customer that needs to deploy his digital 1408 extensions in a remote site using a 1 KM fiber optic cable connected to Avaya IP Office
From one side & to the Digital phones on the other side
From your experience & knowledge is there any type of converters that can be installed on both sites to transfer the digital signals of the Avaya phones over fiber optic cables
assuring the QoS, & functionality , or can we install the Digital Expansion Module on the remote site connecting it to the IP office through fiber ?

Kindly I appreciate your advice regarding this , & to guide me to anyone who can support

Thanks & regards
Iron Ash

This is not possible.
You will need to get an IP phone, IP endpoint license and a VCM card.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

why would you want to re-invent the wheel. This is why there are IP phones and also why the IP Office can do digital as well as IP and analog phones.
If you have fiber connections between these two places and do not want to use the network then use a fiber to copper converter on each end and use the IP Office's LAN2 port and have just the one phone on it. That way you stay clear of their network.

You COULD install another IPO at remote site and make a SCN between. Much depends on exact requirements.

Best bet get them an IP phone, and IP endpoint license and a VCM card if they do not have one.
Simple Upgrade, swap that Customers 1408 with a 1608! Phone is identical to the typical user, and they will have remote access.

If they do not have a VCM card nor free IP endpoint license, it will be a pricey upgrade. However it will be cheaper than buying another IPO, VCM, and more licenses.

If it's one phone, swap for IP and be happy. If it's fifty phones, then additional consideration is required.

Thank you guys for the valued replies :)

However I already offered the customer the IP phones solution as it is the best logical solution for such situation
But He wanted to get use of his large stock of digital phones they have already , & cause of other security reasons..
but even fiber to copper converters will not do any good , cause they wanted to deploy around 30 digital phones on the remote site

I thought of implementing the Digital expansion module on the remote site & connect it over fiber , but Avaya replied same as you guys (Better to go IP) ,

I'll reply to the customer for the same , & let him swap to IP

30 extns would lead me to recommend a 2nd IPO & SCN

What security concerns does you customer have? this sounds like BS from an IT guy that does not know anything about VoIP & does not want to get involved with it.
If running over a private fiber there should be nothing to be concerned over, provided the IPO is not reachable from the internet there should be no real need for concern (disabling auto create extn & setting sensible passwords where needed is still prudent).
