I am having problems with a 130 foot 25 pair amphenol cable carrying analog audio to a NiceCallFocus3 voice recorder. The audio seems very low on playback of calls. AGC (automatic gain control) is enabled on the recorder so the volume at the beginning of the call is very low then "ramps" up over about 10 seconds. Sometimes there is about a 4 second total loss of recording even though the callers are speaking. Then the audio picks up again without creating a new call and usually ends without another dropout. Is the length of the cable too long? Is there any equipment I can use to boost that signal? Thanks.

What is the "source" of the audio? The cable is neutral in this process. It will either work or it won't - and 130 feet is fairly minimal. "Too long"? I suppose it depends a bit on what type of audio (back to the source question) - 8 ohm, 600 ohm, balanced/unbalanced, something else? Put a butt set on and listen to how it sounds...

The source is phone positions at a 911 call center. We are tapping from a 66 block cross-connected to AT&T's demarc also a 66 block. Recording both trunk and the position and when the dropout happens it happens on both calls.

You've described where you connect, but not really what type of audio signal you're getting. If you're essentially parallel on analog trunk then 130' cable is nothing. Are the "phone positions" analog telephones (2500 type)? And you're connected in parallel to tip & ring? And is your recording device interface made for tip & ring connections?

what type of 911 eguipment are you using is plant cml,
positron of what?

I am guessing you are cross connecting across the 130 foot cable back to the Nice system and then back to the device.

I would contact Nice and see what their technical support group says.

I just installed a Dynamic Instruments call recorder and everything is cross connected off the main frame in the equipment room. Approximately 10 feet from port to recorder. I am sure their is a limit but Nice would be the ones to ask.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

Don't know this equipment at all, but it would seem to me that the AGC needs to be calibrated in order to raise the volume level to a higher starting point and let the AGC adjust up and down from there, rather than having to raise the volume every time. Just as a test is there a way to shut off the AGC and just manually set a level?

You also need to make sure your interfaces are compatible between the 911 system and NICE.

What are the specifications for both of the units for logging/recording?
