I'm useing win 98. I run defrag, it looks real good when I look at "Details." After I defrag I go to pcpitstop.com and run a full test. I get a message saying my Drive is 13% Fragmented, Recomend run defrag. I have used the windows 98 and windows ME Defrager. Why is my Drive so fragmented AFTER I run Defrag? Thank you, Knievel.

This could be down to the swap file. Set defrag to run the next time that the PC starts by using the task scheduler.
This makes defrag run before any other files are used. Windows defrag is not the best in the world you could try
Executive softwares Diskeeper.

I am using the defrag from win ME, it's supoised to be better then the win 98.

The Swap!!! I had forgot about something I did, thanks for the reminder. A few weeks a go I disabled the swap file, re-booted in safe mode and ran defrag. It put all my "Unmoveable Files" at the end of my C partition. I'm assuming some might be the swap, which would be recognized as out of place. I also put a fixed size to help fragmentation of the swap.

If this is it, is there a way to get the swap back where it was before? Thanks, Evel.

When you disabled the swap file did you delete it also? To help determine if it is the swap file and to keep it from getting fragmented do like you did before. Disable it, boot into dos, delete it (win386.swp), defrag, then reenable the swap. Windows will then put it all together in one big chunk and it should not get fragged again. Or Norton Speed Disk will move it all together in space if you use it to defrag.

I did not delete it when I did it. My computer seems to run better when I let windows control the swap. Every time I let win do it I see a noticable inprovment. I have read in so many places where it's better to set it yourself, but I don't see that. Any ideas why? Thanks, Evel Knievel.

I ran drfrag and got 13% fagmented. I let windows manage the swap and ran drfrag again. It listed only 3%. I had a out of memroy yesterday with it set to let wondows manage the swap though.
