1140E BCM 6.0 3

Hi I am trying to set up a 1140E on my BCM. When i plug in the 1140E it trys to Says LLDP failed, trys to get to Prov server fails, then trys to get to S1 then fails and restarts. I tryed to manually change the S1 to the BCM, the PROV to the BCM and assigned it a static IP but its still doing the same thing. any help is appreciated.
 
AriX3 - You are not alone. I'm having the same problem.

Just tried setting up my first 1140E on a BCM450 6.0 system. Upon power up of the phone, I see a firmware release of 02.01.06.00. Then get a "Provisioning error" followed by a message "connecting to S1" then it throws up a User Login screen

My BCM is 10.20.1.1 /255.255.0.0
My 1140E is to be 10.30.3.1 /255.255.0.0 and VoIP ext 2601.

When I press the services button twice I get into the Network Services screen. There I see options for
1) Server Settings
2) Device Setttings
3) Diagnostics
4) Lock
When choosing any of these, I get prompted for an admin password.
Don't know that is?

In BEM, Resources - Telephony Resources - Internal IP Sets -
Under the IP Terminal Global Settings tab:

Enable Registration - checked.
Enable Global Registration password - unchecked.
Auto-Assign DN's - unchecked.
Play DTMF Tone - unchecked.
Default Codec - G7.11-uLaw.
Default Jitter Buffer - Large.
G.729, G.723, G.711 - all 30 msec
Support Remote Worker - checked.

Under the IP Terminal Details tab:
See 21 1220 IP phones listed which are all in working order.
No 1140E is showing, so it's not registered from what I can tell.

In BEM, I ran a packet capture on just the 1140E host IP: 10.20.3.1. I posted this to my dropbox.com public folder:

May want to compare this with your packet capture to see if these are comparable in Wireshark. Interesting... I see the 1140E phone using http to retrieve a file called: 1140esip.cfg from the BCM. It also shows a http 404 File Not Found error.

Then I seen some unknown requests: PING sip:10.20.1.1:7000

Do I need a software patch on my BCM450 to support 1140E ip phones?

@VoiceOfJoe - If you see 02.01.06.00 as the release, then that phone is loaded with SIP software instead of UNIStim. You need the latter to work on BCM. You can use a TFTP server to convert it to UNIStim.
 
Well that's good to know. Can you point me in the direction of where to get the correct firmware and how to TFTP it to the actual 1140E phone. Also, any idea if Nortel (or CDW in this case) has different part numbers so you order an 1140E with the correct firmware?

@VoiceOfJoe. You can download software from support.avaya.com. Look on the same site for the 1140E SIP Administration Guide which has a section on converting from SIP -> UNIStim. Avaya (Nortel no longer exists as far as this product is concerned) does have different order codes.
 
Good advice. Thanks - I will test this out. I've also got two 1120E ip phones I'm planning on setting up with REMOTE WORKER feature. Will I need to do the same with them (or is that going to depend upon firmware they ship with)? Is there any sort of firmware overview document summarizing the various firmware releases and which does what???

I received an 1120E from ebay and it was loaded with SIP firmware. By going into the phone's programming during startup, I changed the phone's S1 and S2 IP address to that of the BCM's IP address and was able to get the BCM to download the correct BCM firmware to the phone, all without doing the TFTP server.

You can get into the phone's programming during startup by unplugging and plugging the phone back in.....wait for the phone to make a "chime" noise, press the 4 softkeys under the display from left to right, that will bring you into the phone's programming. If you do not have the password, a good search for the 1140E under wikipedia will bring you results.
 
If this doesn't work, you are going to have to try the TFTP option. Keep us in the loop to what happens!
 
SORRY, I am incorrect. I was once able to do what I described above in an earlier version of the SIP firmware....but now I am not able to get this to work on the newer SIP firmware on my 1120E. Stick with the TFTP explanation above for the best results.
 
Mine is in unitism already... When im setting Up the phone manually, the DNS1 will be the phones IP, the s1 is the BCM and the provision server is also the bcm?
 
Alright... I'm making some progress. I have newer UNIStim firmware applied to my first 1140E phone. Also realized I need to be connecting to port 7000, NOT 5000. I realized this by inspecting my working 1220 phones. Upon reboot of 1140E phone, I get message: Retrieving Configuraiton.cfg Then a screen comes up:

I tried entering in 2601, my DN number for the phone, but it then gave me a password prompt. I tried COLOR*SET but that didn't work. Stuck again.

When I substitute the BCM IP (10.20.1.1) for the Provisioning server IP address. I get a startup error regarding system.prv not found. Then takes me to back to NEW SET screen with User ID prompt?



Any thoughts as to what may be wrong? Registration is enabled (w/o global password) on the BCM... Not sure what I'm missing.

You can set your provisioning server IP to 255.255.255.255 or 0.0.0.0. You dont need a provisioning file unless you are trying to do zero touch phone installs. Since you are seeing new set, the phone is talking to the BCM and ready to be registered.
 
Ok. So I removed my provisioning server IP and I'm back to a NEW SET window. Now what? I don't know what User ID: or password it is referring to?? On the 1220 phones I've setup I've gotten a prompt to enter the DN I want to assign the new phone and the registration happens automatically. I'm not there yet...
 
Problem solved!! Biv343 was right. NEW SET prompt meant I was talking to BCM. It occurred to me the User ID: prompt may need a nnadmin login, but I didn't have any option to input letters, so I tried the Telset User ID and Password and low and behold it worked! I was then prompted to "Select a DN for the Set". After entering the correct DN, the registration proceeded to sucessful completion!

Thanks to biv343, gwebster and others who replied.

Now I can move forward and setup my first 1120E set with REMOTE WORKER feature.

With the New Set, try 738662 (SETNNA), alternatively access Telephony resources > IP Sets, check the Global password which should be BCMI 2264 or blank enter new one or just blank and press ok on the phone to continue.

Sorry I couldnt have been of more help, but I agree with what Training Dave said above, I was stumped when I couldnt figure out the password on the phones and then came across what Dave talked about and everything worked great!
