How do I convert an 1120e configured with SIP 02.02.21.00 to a unistim firware... I need to connect that phone on a BCM50 and I cannot figure out how to do it.

I tried with a tftp server but I only have the provisionning option on the 1120 sip version....and nothing is loading when I point it to my server..

Please help me or this phone will end with the spare parts junk...

Ok, you need to trick the phone into reading the SIP file. If you don't have SIP in the firmware file name, the phone will not recognize the Unistim firmware.

Create a folder named (Nortel Unistim 1220 upgrade) or something you prefer

place the unistim Nortel/Avaya firmware into the file:

0624C8L.bin

Name a Notebook entry 1120eSIP.cfg

then paste the following information into the file.

[FW]
DOWNLOAD_MODE FORCED
VERSION 0624C8L
FILENAME 0624C8L.bin

So your file folder should have 2 files named:
0624C8L.bin
1120eSIP.cfg

point your TFTP server to your files and upload!

Keep us posted if it works....

I get "provisionning error" on the display when I reboot the phone and my tftp receive no request from the phone. Tftp server works since it is a dedicated server for this feature and unistim phones upgrade works fine.

So your phone is set to the TFTP IP address? Is your download mode set to Forced?

Is your DHCP on the phone turned to on or off? If it's off, turn it to on......I found out that by having the DHCP off, the phone did not recognize the network and thusly didn't recognize the TFTP server.

Well.... when I select full or partial DHCP the phones get stuck on "starting DHCP".

I turned off the DHCP server from our bcm to use our local router but no difference, keep showing "starting DHCP

You should configure the phone to use Partial DHCP. If you have a DHCP server on the network, the phone should get an IP address from it and proceed to the next step. If it does not (as you say, it gets stuck with starting DHCP), there is likely some problem with connectivity to the network. My personal guess is that you plugged the network cable into the wrong jack on the phone (PC instead of network).
If you fail to get a DHCP address after checking/correcting the network connections, you could try turning DHCP off and giving the phone a static IP address.

Good luck

OK, conversion to the C8L firwmare worked...

So now... is it possible to downgrade the phone to an older firmware like C6E or C4L. Reason is that I need to install it on a CS1000. It gives an error (incompatible FW blocked)

If you have BCM50 (I assume you do based on your initial description), you can downgrade the 1120 to the firmware version that is on your BCM50. Open the Element Manager, go to Configuration - Resources - Telephony Resources - IP Sets, from the bottom pane select the tab IP Terminal Details, in the list of devices select the 1120 and finally click on the button Force Firmware Download.

Sure... I tried that... files gets uploaded then it says fw writing ..... failed and it shows incompatible fw blocked

Is it possible that C8L is blocking downgrade... I even tried to revert it back to SIP 4.3 which worked fine, then tried unistim C6L but the SIP version gives me the same error. The only available firmware for the conversion is C8L..

This is from the readme file related to the Unistim release 5.4 software. This applies to all 1100 and 1200 series sets.

IMPORTANT NOTE for customers still using earlier UNIStim Software Releases related to expired digital
signatures.

Earlier UNIStim Software Releases including UNIStim Software releases 4.2, 4.3, and 5.0 have expired digital
signatures that prevent successful downgrade of the IP Deskphones’ software to those loads. If a software
downgrade to these loads is attempted the error message ‘FW authentication failure’ will appear, and the phone will
not accept the downgrade. All Software loads can absolutely be upgraded to UNIStim Release 5.4. UNIStim
Software Releases since 5.1 have included digital signatures with a 10 year duration.

So, once you have the newest firmware in there, you're stuck with it unless you tftp the old software directly.

Is there anything that Avaya touches that they don't screw up beyond belief!!!!!!!!!!

GordonKapes is that you making the E-Metrotel vids on youtube? If so good job dude but let's see some with the hardware, the system itself you know ? Maybe even some with the GUI so we can see what the programming looks like.

Ok, so I'll try the older software I have tomorrow but do you know which one I should use?

Thanks guys

In that readme file, there's a lot of info relating to the CS1K and its different releases. As near as I can figure, it should work on any version above 5.0 BUT I think there are some patches that need to be installed first so you might want to see what PEPs you have on your system before proceeding.

If you have access to the Avaya website, just search on 1140e Unistim and you should be able to download that readme file. You might not even an SSO to get it.

Hey Jeremy, yes that's me. I've been swamped at Walgreens Corporate, but I've been trying to fit in movies in my spare time. I'll get around to the hardware soon. I am in Northern Michigan now and using IP phones remotely in a cabin, so I'll make a video tomorrow about how I set that up.

Thanks for the note.

Srogger, I want you to get your 11xx phones working, let us know what happens!

I open up I case with Avaya and telcodog was right.... I got the answer

There is no way this phone can be downgrade... once you are at C8L.... you can only go up, downgrade is no longer allowed. So if you have a BCM400 4.0 or 3.7, 3.6 or a BCM50 R1, R2 & R3 the newer firwmare can not be used. If it gets installed or if it comes with it..... you're stuck with a nice non-working phone.

********* The only supported version is BCM450 R5 & R6 and BCM50 R5 & R6.**********
Avaya gives you no choice..... Upgrade or change to an i200X

Based on the information from telcodog, you should be able to downgrade to any firmware version 5.1 or newer. I just successfully downgraded my 1140 from 0625C8J to 0625C8G.

Also, I would be surprised if older BCM releases had problem with the new firmware. Did you verify this claim? BCM software should use phones with new firmware without problems. I wouldn't be too surprised if CS1000 was more restrictive and rejected phones with unknown firmware.

Maybe you could try to force the download of the SRG firmware. That firmware must be compatible with CS1000 (BCM50 SRG is used as a backup for CS1000).

Try it with a C8L and tell me..... here are the file I did try... All gets blocked even SIP to UNI and UNI to SIP
