I have a western Digital 100 gig hard drive that crashed on me. For some reason i am now only able to see 38 gig on it. I have tried everything i know to try and have the hd see the 100 gig but it wont. I tried formatting it in dos, using the Western Digital data lifeguard tools disk, and even some software. Can anyone help me. Its driving me crazy. TIA

Matt

1) Is the hard drive being viewed from the same PC that it had crashed in? If so, what do you mean by "crash", and did you have to replace any other components in this PC?

2) Are there any other hard drives in the system that show the right amount (greater than 38GB)?

It seems you are running into a BIOS barrier of some kind, either a limitation or an incorrect setting.

Well i did try using Western Digitals Hard Drive Utilities Disk to view the drive and all it came up with was 38 GB. So that didnt work. I now have to different drives in my system, a 200 GB and a 120 GB, which are working fine. As far as the drive crashing, something went wrong where i couldnt boot in to Windows, and i could only retrieve some files that i had on it using software. This is the only computer i have so i disconnect my 2 drives and connect the bad 100 GB drive and try and get it to work from there with no luck. I'm thinking that if my computer can read my 2 large drives i have in there now, why cant it read this one?

Well just wanted to let you know that i was able to fix my hard drive problem using the DOS version of the Wester Digital Data Lifeguard V 11.0 Tools. Thanks for everyones help.
