Well, I have a little more info on this problem and am throwing it out here in the event someone has or had the same problem and knows what is going on. at times my cpu pegs out and slows everything down to a painful crawl, what I have noticed after reloading and changing hardware and all the other things that drive you crazy with VISTA that my task manager processes reads as follows when it is pegged.

System SYSTEM 95 916 K NT Kernel & System

and when i try to reboot it hangs until I power it down and restart it. Sometimes it takes 7 or 8 tries to get the cpu down to normal. when it is normal it runs at 0 to 8 %.

Yes, I have checked all the links and updated all th edrivers and searched thru all the event logs. If anyone has any notion of what would peg this puppy out I'm all ears. I have scanned for virus's with 3 different programs and can say that every time I boot in safe mode the cpu is fine. maybe the hardware is just crap?

These are the links to your older posts and the things that have been tried without success.

If you do not see this problem from Safe Mode, have you taken the next step in eliminating third party programs (I believe there was some mention of disabling some Services in one of your old posts)?

The difference between Safe Mode and what you can achieve via the above steps is that Safe Mode does all the above, BUT doesn't load drivers as an extra precaution. So following that logic perhaps you should be looking for a driver problem?

"sigverif" is alive and well in Vista, see the next article.

Another thing you can try is stopping (temporarily) checking for Windows Updates to see if that is an issue?

You have sent me a wealth of knowledge an I have gone thru all of the above and to tis point can not nail down the actual problem. It may very well be the MB. I have attempted to install new memory twice and the MB refuses to boot with it. I installed the memort in another machine and it works fine. I appreciate the help and I will try changing the MB and see if that fixes the issue.

Post back how the new Motherboard works out. I hope it fixes the problem for you.

You could try sysinternals process explorer. This shows hardware interrupts and dpc's which could give you a much better idea as to whether this is a software issue or some dodgy hardware working with dodgy drivers.
