10.4 Tiger startup annoyance - help?

Hi all

I have just upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4, then patched up to 10.4.2.

Under 10.3.9, when Finder started up I was presented with only a Finder menubar. Under 10.4 (and 10.4.2) I am presented with a Finder menubar and a Finder window (as if I had pressed option-N).

Is this normal under Tiger, and can I stop it? It's annoying having to dismiss a window before starting work.

That isn't normal. Check your startup items / startup folder / launch items.

I have occasionally seen that happen after an update. However, it only tends to happen after the first restart. After that, that window does not appear again.

Problem solved. It turned out that Finder was crahing on every shutdown. It would appear that Tiger doesn't like the way Tinkertool implements the "Display hidden files in Finder" option.

I unchecked this option in Tinkertool and Finder hasn't crashed since, and I no longer get 'rogue' windows at startup.

I have since moved on to using "Path Finder" (excellent!) to get the extra functionality I need
