I have been having problems with 1 mailbox for some time.

Originally I deleted the mailbox and recreated and initially that seemed to resolve the problem, however after this the user couldn't receive mail again.

I purged his account in Exchange System Manager, however in the M: there are now 2 folders relating to the same user. I have tried deleting 1 of these, but it seems somehow interlinked with the other folder.

Any ideas how I can overcome this problem?

I believe the deleted mailboxes will still remain until you do and online backup. I would delete the users mailbox and then do a backup so exchange completly purges the mailbox. Then try recreating it.

Hi there,

I would be VERY catious of messing with the M drive, I'm sure everyone is aware of some of the nasty side effects of making a mistake in here :-(

My understanding is that mailbox deletions etc are picked up by OLM, this is one of it's tasks. Have you got a window for this set?

Also do you receive and 700+ event Ids in the applog to confirm that OLM / OLD is taking place?

Can you explain what you mean by an online backup - do you simply mean doing a full backup of the M drive using a backup utility?

As MarkSe wrote, do not mess with the M drive, do not back it up or virus scan it. I have even seen browsing this drive to cause problems.

An on-line backup refers to backing up the store whilst it is mounted, so use MS Backup (free), or perhaps Veritas Backup Exec with the exchange option. MS Backup will allow the store to be backed up and restored, at the store level only, whilst veritas will allow Mailbox/Message level restore.

On a side note, backing up the M drive causes log files to be left hanging around, at 5Mb each they can run into the 10's of GB.

Hope this helps.
