I thought I saw a recent thread that addressed this, but now I can't find it.

I currently have 3 VFP9 licenses, one for each of my 3 development machines. I'm a one-horse wagon about to become a two-horse wagon. Do I need another license, or did I over-buy the last time and can the new gal use one of the existing licenses?

You have enough licences, I'm pretty sure of that.

I'm not 100% sure if the VFP licence is 'per developer' or per machine, but if you have three machines - you definately only need three licences.

If you are using something like West-Wind or Spellcheck, you will probably need to pick up additional licences for them - I think they are 'per developer'.

I'm a one man band too - good luck with your additional staff, I don't envy you that!

Mike,

I think Griff's right. You should certainly be able to give your new person one of your existing licences.

But, to be sure, you should read the so-called end user licence agreement, which should be accessible somewhere. That'll give you the definitive answer.

Mike

Mike,

From the VFP 9 EULA, 2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. If you comply with this agreement, for each license you acquire, you have the rights below.

a. General. One user may install and use copies of the software to design, develop, test and demonstrate your programs."

The license is per user, not per machine.

Jim

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I would be OK, but it's good to have confirmation.

It's important to also Consider the other tools that you use: we recently tried to take advantage of an upgrade offer from InstallShield of $99 to go from Express V4 to v11...

After paying and downloading, it would only install on one Computer.. A second Computer was prevented by its server- based product Activation (Similar to Microsoft's).

While this enforses their machine- based License eula, (not ta mention not to mention that they also require multiple users on the Same computer to each have thin own License...), it also prevented me from keeping a Live backup build Computer for when the primary Computer unexpectedly has a problem.

To do this, according to license would require me to spend $450 more for a second, full, License.

My answer: No way! Give me my money back, and I'm never buying from Install Shield / Macro Vision again. Hello Wise, (or any other installer!)

(don't be surprised if I start a thread just for this topic!)
