I'm getting this error "0602-100 No lines exist in the specified buffer" Press return to Continue
When trying to edit any file as root using vi, whereas when I edit file using any other user I'm not seeing that error. Any comments ..?

BTW - .exrc in root just had oneline
more .exrc
/export/xxxxxxx

Thanks !

What is in your /export/xxxxx?

have a look at this talking about how to build .exrc files:

Code:
8.0 - Setting up .exrc file

Any commands that can be used in command input mode ( : commands),
may be used in a .exrc, which will load automatically whenever you
start vi. In addition, the source command (so), abbreviations (ab),
and macros may be used. There may not be any blank lines in your
.exrc. A " in the first column may be used to tell vi that what
follows is a comment.

Have you checked whether your root's home directory is full?!?! Just a second check!

Regards,
Khalid

Hello Khalid.

Thanks for the response,Nope there is no EMPTY/BLANK entry on .exrc , /root is not full either there is enough space available.

BTW- when I change file name of .exrc to exrc or exrc_old. It works fine, Any Other comment/Advise ?

maybe it'd be better if you backed up and tell us what you're trying to do in your .exrc file. /export/xxxxx doesn't make any sense to me... is that a search string?

Hello exsnafu,

Well I'm trying to edit a file on AIX Server as root, I'm hitting with the following error
"0602-100 No lines exist in the specified buffer" Press return to Continue

Well, vi complains about the "command" /export/xxxxxxx in your /.exrc file.

Just edit that /.exrc file and put the line in comment by putting a double quote ([tt]"[/tt]) in front of it and save the file.
