Hi,

We are trying to create a VG on ATA devices on a CLARiiON
Cx300 but to no avail (Unable to create volume group). The funny thing is we don’t have any problems creating a VG on the fiber attached drives.

Config:

O/s - AIX5.3
Powerpath - 4.4.1 (build 31)
San attached via McData ed-64-m

Error:

0516-1184 mkvg: IO failure on hdiskpower6.
0516-862 mkvg: Unable to create volume group

Suggestion made to date:

1) chdev -l hdiskpower6 -a pv=yes (Enabling a PVID to be created for all of hdiskpower devices)- No Luck

2)By removing the LUNZ (as per emc102293) and disabling the arraycommpath.- No Luck

3)Cleanup AIX ODM Definitions.- Have not tried this as yet.

Any suggestions that might help solve the problem will be appreciated

Thanks

Eugene

Eugene, are you able to do a dd (read) command on the rhdisk such as :
dd if=/dev/rhdiskXX of=/dev/null bs=512 count=10000

if errors exists, you've got another problem
